Rudranath (One of Panch Kedar)

Devotees come to Rudranath to offer ritual obeisance ti their ancestors, for it is here, at Vaitarani river that the soal of dead cross when entering another world. The temple of Rudranath at 2,286 mts, entails trekking through ridges at almost twice that height before reaching the meadow where it is located. Within the sanctum, Shiva's image is worshipped in the form of his face.Last week of June 2007, I went to Pauri. One day when I got up in morning I thought about to visit Rudranath. Rudranath is one of five shrines of Lord Shiva in Garhwal (Panch Kedar). I just started to think about such partner who would be adventures, courageous and ready to visit such places and same day 3 friends got ready for pilgrimage. D.S. Negi, Thanna (Thaneshwar) and Makan Singh. Thanna & Makan had already visited the shrine so they became ready to accompany till motor road. We had a detailed discussion about the route. We were intimidated by them (Thanna & Makan) that the route most toughest route but we took it positively & started the journey with more passion.
We did necessary arrangements and left pauri at 1:30 PM by Negi’s Car for Gopeshwar. Next morning we reached at sagar which is 4 Km. from Gopeshwar and base for Rudranath.
In sagar there is trust named Sagar Aashram, formed by Sh. Yoganand Ji. Yoganand Ji is working in a bank at Gopewhwar and do spiritual elucidation time to time. He is grandson of Mr. Shyam Singh ( Famous Patwari ( A person who keeps records of village account) of Niti & Mana Valley). Pilgrims can stay and have good food at ashram. Thanna & Makan decided to stay in ashram untill we come back from Rudranath. We take necessary things & left Sagar at 8:00 AM. Steep climb starts from here and after 4-5 km. we reached at a small Bugyal (Grass Land) where we saw a hotel with STP, PCO signboard. We got WLL phone there and did a phone call to our family members. Here we took tea and after a little rest we moved forward. We were trekking in a dense forest and steep climb but the route was very enjoying. We were enjoying birds chirping and viewing different types of vegetation, Negi was testing wild fruits and explaining its name and taste after seeing this I couldn’t stop myself and tasted some fruits. It’s most dangerous to touch, sniff and taste wild flower & fruits, if you don’t know about that flower or fruit.

We reached at Panar Bugyal For which we were horrified by Thanna & Makan and we had to think about the journey but the Himalayan beauty made it easy. Panar is a beautiful Bugyal and one can enjoy the beauty of Panar only after visiting it, but we need strong will to visit these types of places. We didn’t stay here and moved forward slow & steady. Here we got a hotel where most of pilgrim do night stay because it’s not easy to reach Rudranath in one day. We met some shepherd also who lost their 80 gots next day, in cloud burst. Rudranath is about 8 km. from here. Rudranath is situated at 3286 mts. but one should cross 4000 mts. height enroute. When we reached at top we stayed there for few minutes and ate wet grams which we were carrying with us and a lemon also. Negi was taking care of water. He was carrying a water bottle in his hand. We saw a rat on the way, Negi introduces that as dawar rat. It looks like a little rabbit. After 4-5 km. from Panar we reached at panch ganga bugyal, where a person of dumuk village was running a shop and his income was totally depend on pilgrims. It was 2:30 pm and time for lunch, so we had alloo parantha. We listened his experience, he was telling about fuel problem what he faced in current season and totally depend on forest which is far from this place. Rhododendron tree has changes it’s shape in this height and looks like shrub, which is used as fuel.
We gathered information about Ansuya Devi trek and came to know that there is a steep slope from here But we decided to follow the trail while return and moved to Redranath. Enroute we met four local ladies who were going to Rudranath ji & carrying ration & wood. We saw fist view of Rudranath from here. Temple is located in a nice slope. 4-5 Dharamshalas are available here, some of them are in good condition. We walked through a gentle slope and after 10 minutes we reached at temple gate. We found a natural water spring and a kund near gate. We sat in open area of temple for few minutes and did rest. Natural beauty worked as a medicine and we forgot the tiredness of journey. It was 4:30 pm so we did arrangements for night stay and dinner.

There is a group of temples with different shapes of Shivlings, which looks very beautiful. We joined evening Puja. Rudranath is the place where lord Shiva is worshipped by face. Idol looks very nice in cave shaped temple. Temple gate is made by mud and wood. Idol is slightly bend to it’s left side. After puja we met priest Tiwari ji who was talking to every pilgrim and asking about their journey, food and accommodation. We stayed in a dharamshala and had dinner, prepared by a local guy and went to bed. Next morning we thought to take bath but water was too cold so did panch snan (Washed hand, face & feet) only. Morning puja started at 9:00 am.
After having breakfast we started moving back and followed Ansuya Devi trail. It was steep slope and we had to walk on boulders, at some points the slope was more the 70 degree. Negi was doing this type of journey first time and was facing problem while getting down. I was thinking, that two days back I was thinking about to visit Rudranath ji and today I was coming back from there. Route is not too wide but one can walk easily. After crossing this area we entered in forest. Most of the vegetation was known to me and Negi ji was introducing the unknown. Here one can get confused due to thick layer of leaf. Fortunately we didn’t face any problem. After forest area we found some sheds made by shepherds, we sat with them and listened their experiences. We gave them a small amount for their warm hospitality. Ansuya devi temple was visible from here and just 4 km. from this place. Trail goes via forest but this is a good route. Ansuya devi temple is situated in a nice location, after visiting temple we were in hurry to reach on motor road. We reached there at 6:00 pm and called our friends who had already visited temple same morning and night stay at sagar.
Next morning we moved to sari village which is base for devaria tal. We did breakfast at chopta and reached Sari village. We confirmed lodge for night stay and dinner and moved to Devaria tal. Devaria Tal is just 2 to 2.5 km. trek from sari village. It’s 125 mts. long and 75 mts. in width. Here some local people were running shops for tea and food. We took some snakes there and stayed till evening and than return to sari village. Next morning we returned to Pauri.

Kedar Tal Trek

Uttrakhand a land of snowy peaks, glaciers, Bugyals, Beautiful valleys, natural springs, dense forest and a rich culture. Uttarakhand is heaven for nature lover, trekker and mountaineers. Month of September is the best for trekking so we had done our planning and fixed schedule for kedar tal, which is located near gangotri in the uttarakashi district. We (Raju bhai, Badola ji & Myself) started from kotdwar by bus and our destination was uttarakashi for that day. Raju Bhai and Badola ji love trekking and also hiking since a long time, I was lucky to join them. We reached uttarakashi by evening and met our fourth team member Shiv singh negi. I was amazed to see his love and dedication for trekking & mountaineering in this age. We gathered all the information about trek from NIM uttarakashi and hired porter from uttarakashi.

I was amazed to see his love and dedication for trekking & mountaineering in this age. We gathered all the information about trek from NIM uttarakashi and hired porter from uttarakashi.
Next morning we got up early and reached gangotri by 1-2 pm, We packed our baggage and started trekking. In starting porter was not ready but we started with “Ganga Maiyya ki jai”. After crossing Bahgirathi by bridge we gave messages to our family members from local PCO. I purchased a walking stick. There was steep climb in starting. The trail goes through dense forest of Deodar to the left side of Bhagirathi. After climbing till next few km., gangotri was still visible just down. While hiking this trail Negiji was sharing his experience. He had done Basic, Advance & Rescue course from NIM uttarakashi and had provided service to many TV channels which are discovering this area. He had already climbed many Himalayan peaks. I was trying to collect maximum information, but the route was so steep so we couldn’t talk for a long time. Uttarakhand is definitely a challenging task for them who loves trekking in virgin mountains. Trekking is also best option to see the tradition & culture of the area.

It was evening now but we were unable to find the proper place for camping, There were many screezones in the trail so we were hiking very carefully. A little mistake could change the scene. Now the low altitude vegetation had ended and high altitude vegetation started. A dense birch forest started now. While crossing this forest we got an open area which is known as “Bhoj Kharak”. We decided to stay there because there was no safe camping area till the next few km. This place was 9 km. from Gangotri. We gathered some wooden piece and burn fire. We were 6 and were feeling congested in the tent but we had to manage. While dinner preparation we shared old experiences, one porter sang very good songs after dinner.
Next morning after having breakfast we moved fordward, after walking for few minutes the birch forest ended and grass land started.
In between we had to walk on boulders. The trail was sliding so we were walking very carefully. While following this trail I was enjoying Himalayan beauty, which was a different experience and can’t be explained by words. It was a fearful enjoyment for what I visit the great Himalayas. After such a tough hike we reached at Kedar Kharak and pitched our tent there. It was 1 PM and after having snacks we planned to visit Kedar Tal same day. After taking necessary things & compass we moved to kedar tal which was 4 km. from here, but it was a tough trail, after few minutes walking we were walking on big boulders. It was very risky to cross that area but It was like heaven, world of glaciers in open area. We were hearing the avalanches sound, coming from glaciers which was horrifying us. While hearing such sounds and walking on a ridge we saw a big blue lake “Kedar Tal“. The lake is located at 4425 mts. Mountaineers make it base camp while submit to Group of Jogin Peaks.

After climbing down for few meters we reached at Kedar Tal. We stayed here for little time and enjoyed the beautiful painting of God. Soon we got the back trail to kedar kharak. Enroute we faced blizzard for few minutes. We reached at kedar kharak very late and in dark. We prepared dinner and portor sang songs after dinner. Next morning we got up early and finish daily routine job. After breakfast we walked very fast till Gangotri. We got the taxi for uttarakashi after Gangotri Temple visit. We did this trek in a short time but this was one of my good trek and gives me lot of energy whenever I remember it.

Dodi Tal Darba Top Trek

Dodi tal is located in 3024 mts. in uttarakashi district of uttarakhand. Dr. bahuguna had already contacted to NIM and had gathered all the information about the trek, he had arranged a porter cum guide also. We reached uttarakashi by bus. We had already done all the preparation for the trek.

Chaunhan was waiting for us when we reached at uttarakashi. As per him he had already joined many expeditions and had a rich experience. We left srinagar early so we reached there by time. We reached sangam chatti (14 km. from uttarakashi) by taxi, had light food and started trekking. After 3-4 Km. climb we reached Agoda village, here some people has developed there home as lodge, but we moved ahead as we had time till dark. This village was the center of 1991 earthquake in uttarakhand. People are good & hospitable of this village. They have good agriculture land. After 2 km. from this village we saw some closed shop near a natural spring. Shopkeepers might have gone to their village in night. We decided to stay in verandah of a shop. We burn the fire prepared dinner and boiled some potatoes for morning breakfast. Weather was bad. From here the trail converted into steep climb. There was a dense forest enroute where we saw monal bird. We saw many local villagers there, who were engaged in shop and some were pilgrims who went Dodital to worship. After 16 km. hike we reached at Dodital.

We reached here in afternoon because porter and my partners hiked very fast and I was helpless so followed them. This is a crystal clear water lake, surrounded by dense Oak, Pine, Deodar tree. The lake has so many fishes specially the Himalayan golden traut. Few shops and a forest rest house is available. A ganesh temple and Annapurna devi Temple is built up there. We sat in verandah of forest rest house, guard was not there so we prepared and ate food at verandah. Here we met some trekkers also. It gives a nice pleasure to share your experience with other trekkers. After that we searched out the surrounding area of lake. While trekking one should respect and accept the local tradition and culture, then he will be easily acceptable and welcomed by local people. Now the forest guard had reached and we got a nice wooden cottage.

Next morning we visited temple & found a register for entry, after seeing this I came to know that two days back a team of trekkers from kotdwar (BEL) has visited this place, later we all became friends and go for trekking together. We packed our baggage and followed the trail for Darba Top, the trail turns into a steep climb after few meters and we were hiking in forest. After few minutes hiking the forest ended and grass land started. There was no trail so we were seeing the top and making our own way. Lake was looking very beautiful from here. Many flowers were bloomed in bugyal. After 3 km. steep climb we reached at darba pass. After reaching here we saw such natural Himalayan beauty which can not be explained by words. There was a gentle slope in other side. Whole area was good grass land and the ocean of flower. We stayed here for some time and met a shepherd who gave us idea about the route. There was no trail so we stood on a ridge and were making idea about the trail. Here we did mistake, we left the glacier way and followed an easy slop and after moving few steps it converted into a descent slope. We could only walk due to big grass, in other season it’s impossible to follow this trails without equipment, second there was no water in the route. To search the water we left the way and went towards river, and we had to return from there. That time we were thinking about our porter cum guide chauhan but he was also helpless because what he could do, when trail was not there. We had already faced these types of problem many times. After hiking the grass land and then forest area we reached at road head in dark and this place was hanuman chatti. Which is situated enroute to Yamunotri and pilgrims stayed here, who visits Yamunotri. We hired a room, prepared food and slept. While sleeping I was thinking about today's trail and it was impossible to reach without a rich experienced person.

Next morning we reached janki chatti by bus. We left our most of things at hanuman chatti and kept only necessary things. Yamunotri was 6 km. from here. Dharamshalas, hotels and lodges are available near temple. Yamunotri river originates from here. Bali pass is near from here, which is used to enter in tons valley and opens near ruinsara tal. One natural spring is also available here, after taking bath in hot water we visited temple and prepared rice in the hot natural water, had it and kept some for our family members as prashad and reached hanumanchatti by afternoon but we couldn’t get a direct bus to srinagar so we decided to stay there. Next day we reached dharasu by bus, here thanked to chauhan moved to our destinations Srinagar & Pauri.

Har Ki Dun Runisara Tal Trek

Har-ki-Dun, situated at an elevation of 3566 metres is surrounded by glittering peaks and dense forests. The forests are rich in wild life and are a veritable paradise for bird-watchers and nature lovers. Har-ki-Dun, a relatively small, unspoilt valley very similar to the Valley of Flowers, is 8 km. froom Osla the last village in the region. To some trekkers it is a preferable destination as it involves more of a trek, is not so often visited, and is not yet commercialised. From Har ki Dun it is possible to climb many named and un-named peaks and to cross over the ridge to Yamunotri.
We finalize our har ki dun trek over telephone. Myself, Dr. Shekhar Bahuguna, Thapliyal ji and our Nepali porter, who loves nature & trekking and always get ready whenever we call him for any trek. He even comes in low charges. We agreed to meet at dehradun, so thay came from srinagar and myself from kotdwar. They had done all the arrangements & packing at srinagar. Next day early morning we caught the bus for naugaon. We had to follow Dehradun-mussoori-Naugaon-Purola-mori route. One route goes to yamunotri from naugaon via barkot. It was a raini season so road condition was very bad and we had to change the vehicle in many places. En-route we met a Bengali group who were also going to the Har ki Dun, they were five and from railway. From naugaon we got bus for purola. The whole valley is very beautiful. Mussoorie is 35 km. from dehradun and naugaon is 82 km. from mussoorie. From mussoorie to naugaon we had to change the vehicles in 7-8 places. This belt is a good fruit belt specially apple. A navodaya vidyalaya was looking very beautiful in these hills. Purola is 19 km. from naugaon. It is situated in a very beautiful valley. We purchased hunter shoes for porter from here. We covered purola to mori by taxi. Mori is a small market and surrounded by dense forest, from here one route goes to Hanol–tyuni and another towards har ki dun. We reached natwar 12 km. from mori by taxi, enroute we paid entry fees of Govind WildLife Sanctuary to forest department.
We did night stay at sankari which is 13 km. from natwar. Calcutta group was also with us. Taluka is 10 km. from here. Half route was done by taxi and then we started proper trekking for har ki dun. Each of us was carrying 17-18 kg. weight. Taluka is a small market and had lot of tourism possibilities if road will be approached. It was 2:00 pm now, trail was easy and people were available in short distance. One thing I noticed that children were begging for toffee and sometimes it was begged by elders also. Enroute we crossed villages, where houses were built in a different style, beautiful double story houses. Our porter was carrying heavy baggage so we hired a local porter. We did night stay in verandah of a shop at seema village. A natural water spring was making a nice sound.

Next morning we started early and reached osla. This place is 14 km. from taluka. This trek is heaven for photographer, beautiful Himalayan peaks, villages, forest, river, springs, animals, birds and people everything was different from rest of the world.
Next morning we started early and reached osla, this place is 14 km. from taluka. GMVN has made a tourist rest house here. We met a school group of 60-70 students in osla, who came for eco tourism study in this area, but they were not much familiar with the himalayan trekking, so they couldn't complete the trek. Most of the students were tired or wounded. We took tea in a hut and I purchased roasted potatoes which we ate later enroute. After a steep climb of 13 km. we reached at har ki dun (3566 mts.) “The hanging valley of God”.
We met Calcutta group enroute. Most of the members reached there but with difficulties. One GMVN rest house and a forest rest house is there. Doors were opened so we decided to stay there. No one was available to take care of rest house. It was dark now and we congratulated everybody to reach there safely, specially to Thapliyal ji because few months back his leg got fractured and a plate was fitted, but he reached there with courage & passion. I was suffering from headache now, so I took medicine and did rest, friends made dinner and after having dinner we went inside sleeping bags.

Next morning we went to jyundhar glacier. Jyundhar glacier was spread in a big area. We worshiped here and had breakfast which we carried. We stayed here for few minutes, suddenly the snow fall started with winds, we save ourselves in a shed of rock and returned, when it became slow. We reached har ki dun till late evening. This whole area is like a dream land, which one can’t imagine without visiting the area. Now forest employees had reached there, they gave us a wooden hut for stay. It was very beautiful and the wooden floor was providing relaxation from cold.

Next morning we followed the back route after breakfast. We walked very fast till osla, from osla we took another route which goes to ruinsara tal (Saptrishi Kund). There was a little climb in that route, we camped in a beautiful bugyal, which was surrounded by forest.
While pitching the tent one should take care of some important things, e.g. place should be safe from water if rain started, pots should not be cleaned and waste food should not be thrown near tent, otherwise wild animals can come & damage the tent. Kitchen tent should not be opened other wise wild animals can destroy the food. Here We met two Israeli trekkers, thpliyal ji sat with them for long time. They shared their experience to one another in night, we also thought about to go to yamunotri valley after crossing Bali pass which is near to ruinsara tal.

Next morning we climbed a hard trail which goes parallel with ruinsara gad. There is birch forest before ruinsara tal, after crossing the forest, a beautifull lake Ruinsara Tal is located in the base of hills. There was a shed in a cornor so we decided to stay there and after keeping our baggage there we searched the near by area. Next morning we got up early and climbed up to few km. to see the bali pass route, bali pass was in another side of river and we could go to yamunotri after crossing it. But this time it was very difficult to cross the pass without equipment. So we followed the same way to return and walked very fast till seema. We did night stay in same verandah. We were tired so ate early and went inside sleeping bags.

Next morning we got up early, It’s very important in trekking to got up early only then you can enjoy the natural beauty in morning, which can not be seen later due to weather change, second you may reach timely to your destination. We walked very fast and reached taluka. Then we did a little trek and rest by taxi till mori. Form mori we got taxi for hanol, which is situated in mori - tyuni road and just six km. from mori. We did night stay in hanol, prepared food ourselves. Next morning after taking bath we went to Mahasu Devata temple for worship .This is a famous temple of this area so you can see here so many pilgrimage. We wanted to go to the chakrata but we didn’t get any vehicle for chakrata, so we took the bus for Puola and next morning we got direct bus to Srinagar.

Khatling Glacier & Sahastra Tal Trek

Sahastra tal is one of the toughest trek of garhwal. Ghuttu in Tehri garhwal is base for this trek. Other team members were Dr. Ajay Shekhar bahuguna & Sh. Thapliyal Ji. We did all the preparation for trek in bahugunaji’s house at srinagar . We packed everything ration, medicine, fuel and other necessary things for trek and booked a nepali porter. We did preparation till late night because we wanted to check everything which was required in such treks. This was the learning time for me because both the partners are good experienced trekker and I was exited to do my first trek with them. We went to bed very late and got up early.

This was the learning time for me because both the partners are good experienced trekker and I was exited to do my first trek with them. We went to bed very late and got up early.
Next morning we hire a local porter cum guide Gajendra from here and purchased potatoes and rice from village shop. Now we were five Dr. Bahuguna, Thapliyal ji, nepali porter, gajendra & me. Kalyani is five km. from gangi and till this place gangi people come for agriculture. We were walking very fast but mountain was stopping us. We found a camping place before evening, which was kharsoli (2896 mts.).

Kharsoli is plane area where river was divided in two streams. We searched a safe camping place and pitched our tent. We all prepared food at night and shared our whole day experience & problems. After dinner we boiled potato for breakfast. Next morning after breakfast we did packing and took photographs and moved. The trail was beautiful and can’t be explained by words. From here route is easy but long. We met a shepherd in the route whose sheep were grazing in the forest, he was ill. We gave him medicine. Bhelbagi is 27 km. from Gangi where one rock is hanging in mountain slope, gajendra told that this is called khatling because it looks like a Ling. Most of the trekkers return from here, we did a photography session and moved. Here we had to cross the Bhilangana River by bridge which was made by two logs, rivers was flowing rapidly and river noise was horrible.
After crossing it we reached in an open valley, we gathered some wooden sticks for fire and reached in a cave after crossing a small river. Water was too cold in that river and I was feeling very cold, which I couldn’t forgot till now. This place was chouki. 8-10 people can stay comfortably in cave. One person started soup preparation and one started to clean the cave and manage the baggage. It was sun set time and sun rays had made this valley as heaven. After sun set dinner preparation started. I learned a lot with this group and one most thing that this type of trek can be done in light and enjoyfull environment. We sang songs while dinner preparation and analyzed whole day activity before sleep.
Next morning we moved to khatling zero point with minimum baggage. The trail was tedious and it was tough to hold our breath. Enroute we found a big lake which was introduces by gajendra as Lama lake. Reflection of nearby peaks was looking marvelous. Khatling is near to this place and we had to cross a glacier to reach there.

When at one place we stood for group photographs it started sliding and everybody ran to save himself. A nice Himalayan chain is visible from this point. Which includes Jogin group, Meru, Thaliya sagar etc. This place is famous as hanging glacier which I saw first time. After staying there for some time we returned back to chouki. At one point I felt breathing problem. We again stayed in cave and did next day planning. It was impossible to reach kedarnath via mayali pass without equipment due to snow.

Next morning we moved to Masar Tal. Our program was to return by evening. Sky was clear but in this altitude weather can get changed any time. After crossing green area of Chouki we entered in high altitude flower zone which was covered by Brahma Kamal & Fen Kamal. After a little plane area, steep climb started and a snow portion had to be crossed. We kept tent’s nails and porters rope which could be used in emergency and we crossed this area using these equipment. I learned a lot but it’s sure if nature will allow you only then you can move ahead. One wrong decision can put you & your group in trouble. After a 7-8 km. tough trail we reached at Masar Tal, I could never imagine like this the whole lake was looking like a snow ground.

I was amazed to see the frozen lake in June. This lake is situated in 4000 mts. and surrounded by hills from most sides. I couldn’t guess the lake size due to snow but it should be 2 km. in circle. We did photography session and had biscuits & wet grams. We stayed here for a short time suddenly snowfall started. We decided to leave the height and climbed down. A trek goes to kedarnath from here via Mayali Pass , Painya Tal, Vasuki Tal but can not be completed without equipment. I thought to complete this trek in future. Dr. Bahuguna never forgot do puja in these places.
While climbing down we saw the cave at chouki & became happy to see that nepali porter had unfolded the wet clothes and tent in sunlight. After reaching there we prepared food while food preparation an altercation started among Dr. Bahuguna & Nepali porter, Thapliyal ji also made dispute while resolving the issue. After having lunch we moved back, it was 2:00 pm. We had to climb down so we decided to walk till dark. We started searching camp site before dark. We stayed in a cave near bhelbagi and took biscuits & soup in dinner. We were not talking to one another because of afternoon altercation. We face this type of problem some times in high altitude area which are due to AMS.
Next morning we moved to Gangi. We had left glacier, bugyal but still snowy peaks were visible from here. In some places we crossed birch forest areas. Enroute a shephard’s dog barked at nepali porter and he showed stick to him suddenly some dogs encircled the nepali porter and after lot of efforts we could set him free. We climbed down very fast and reached gangi by evening and did night stay in verandah of primary school. we forgot all disputes and started new planning for Sahastra Tal trek. We prepared local vegetable (Ogal’s leaf) and rice and ate with papad, pickle, ghee… delicious food.

Next morning we took Sahastra tal trek information from gajendra, he explained very well. He had good knowledge about trek but I was feeling backache so we told him to call one more person and he called Bhim. Trail to Sahastra tal was very tough. It was steep climb up in forest, sometimes I was thinking that they are misguiding us and when we reached at the end of forest gajendra told us that there are two ways to reach tadi udiyar (cave). One way will take one more day hike from here and from another way we will reach there today but in second route we will have to cross 100 mts. slippery rock area which is most dangerous & difficult. We sat for few minutes for discussion and we discussed that If we will not follow this risky trail we will always think that we didn’t follow that trail due to fear and we decided to follow same route.
We crossed that patch very slowly & safely otherwise we could go in a deep ditch, after crossing this we were walking in a ridge. We were bristling while crossing this zone. Then bugyal started and we have again got the height and walking on grass land. In this route we got route sign using a heap of stones so that unknown/ new people can find the right direction. At last we reached at tadi udiyar which was base of a tilt rock and the open area was covered by a big stone. This place was sufficient for 7-8 person. Our nepali porter was fell ill in evening. We were worried about him and gave him medicine, but next morning he was quite well. We hadn’t big pot to prepare food, so that night we prepared food in two shifts. In first shift we gave to all porter & guide.
Next morning we moved to Sahastra Tal and followed those stone signs. We visited 12-15 lakes in this area but every lake was frozen like maser tal here we saw a shed made by stones, gajendra told us that a group of some person comes in area with priest and priest does the Bhagwad Geeta path and other listened.
Several lake are situated in this area due to it's geographical condition. It was not easy to stay there for long time due to high altitude so we decided to move ahead. From here. Now we had to send back to Gajendra and Bhim Singh. We thanked them and after remuneration we gave them some magi packets for route because they had to stay in Tadi udiyar this night. Sahashtru peak was looking very beautiful from here.

We were walking on snow and wanted to come out from this zone. We couldn’t walk so long till evening and pitched our tent in a slope of kukhadi dhar (Top)(4600 mts.). when we were pitching our tent suddenly I suffered from headache & vomiting. I didn’t take medicine but licked lemon and became normal after some time.
We had to melt snow to dink & for dinner preparation. We filled our bottle and kept with us inside sleeping bag so that it could remain in water form by body heat and we can drink water when needed.
We took dinner in time and went in sleeping bag Next morning I came to know about night storm, all team members hold the tent whole night, they tried a lot to awake me but helpless. Next morning we climbed down to next slope, we were hiking very slowly because the land was filled by snow. At one point I went deep inside snow and other team members pulled me up. But we got the right way and we came out from snow zone and saw a shepherd’s tent at lower slope. In whole route were carrying two bottles with us one was of water and second was filled by gram & water. From this place one shepherd joined us he was going to his village for some necessary things, fortunately we also had to follow the same route so we got a friend who was known to that area. After climbing down we saw some huts of shepherds, we met them, it gave us nice feel because we were seeing only one another for last few days. We prepared dinner in these huts and slept. It was raining whole night.

Next morning our local friend proposed us to visit a lake which was not in main trail, we couldn’t deny and went there. That was a unknown lake but one of the beautiful small lake in that area. We came in main trail and thanked to him, he showed us the right way and followed his route. It is very difficult to measure our trek in km. but now our body had become habitual to hike with the backpacks. Now we reached in another beautiful lake Masur tal.
A temple was located in a corner of lake with a room as dharamshala, It’s doors were opened. It was raining heavily so we stayed here and prepared food. After some times the weather became clear, then we searched nearby area. After staying here for few hours we started walking and walked till late
evening and reached in a village.
That was a big village, we planned for night stay in verandah of primary school. That was our 9th night after leaving road head and we had hiked appx. 175 km. We took dinner early and went inside sleeping bags because we had decided to wakeup early. We woke up early and moved for Budha Kedar that place was 6 km. from here. we walked very fast and reached Budha Kedar a small bus terminal. We became emotional to see all this because we were coming from such area where nothing exist.
We took there bath and shaved after a long time & changed our clothes. We went to Budha Kedar temple which was under renovation at that time. After temple visit we took breakfast & got the bus for srinager, my firneds went to their home and I got the bus for pauri my hometown, but unable to understand whether I was dreaming or it was real story.

Kagbhusandi Tal Kunkun Khal Trek

Kagbhusandi tal is one of the best trek in garhwal and strenuous also. In this route one has to face big shrubs, rivers, glaciers, passes and rocky area. I suggest every body to start from bhyundhar village and get down at paika village and hire professional guide one can also hite erxper guide from Govindghat & bhyubdhar village but be careful when selecting guide . we followed the following route. Trekking distance is near about 60 - 65 km.
Day 1 : Govindghat - Bhyundar Village - RoopDhungi (12 Km.)

Day 2 : RoopDhungi - Samartoli - Raj Kharak (14 km.)
Day 3 : Raj Kharak - kagbhusandi (6 km.)
Day 4 : KagBhusandi - Panch Vinayak - Brahmakund/ bhains tal (8 Km.)
Day 5 : Brahamkund - Farswan Vinayak - Painka (15 Km.)
Day 6 : Painka village to Road Head (2.5 km.)

We (Rajendra, Shaili & manu Bhai) started from govindghat and hire some nepali porter cum guide from bhyundhar village. It was a simple trek till bhundhar village and little tough till roopdungi which was our first camp site. But second was tough when we had to pass big shrubs, rocks & trees. Here we had to cross a rives in two places using a single tree. After samartoli we had to cross a glacier but we crossed it easily and as I felt that that glacier portion was easy in compare to the other potion of route. After crossing this we wad to walk on boulders and moraine till kagbhusandi Tal.

Lake is beautifull and like a star fish at the height of 17000 ft. some people comeback from kagbhusandi using same route but i suggest to get down at Painka village which has more scenic beauty. After getting down from kagbhusandi tal there is a small river where we found shining stones like diamond. But I suggest not to pick up these because I collected near about 1 Kg. stone but from this place we had to climb panch vinayak which is steep climb more then 85 degree gradient and we reached at top with the helps of herbs in between I had been throwing stones one by one & at last I could take just few stones. Panch vinayak is a nice place for photography but as you could understand the situation we had to hold our breathings. One can view most of the peaks form here like Bhrigupanth, thailya sagar, chaukhanba... From Panch vinayak there is gradient slope to brahamkund which is again most beautiful area. No Kund or lake exist in this area but in 50 sq. meter area there is soft grass and water appears in many places we pitched out tent at brahmakund. Last day was from braham kund to Painka village (15 Km.) and toughest trail. From Brahamkund to farswan Vinayak is rocky area and slippery zome (2-3 km.) then gradient slope till painka village where we had to walk on rocks and that's why I suggest to start from Bhyundar because it's steep climb if one start from Painka village and even have to walk between rocks where you can get confused.
